Rural Outskirts of Medan
My second stop in my journey through Indonesia brought me to the rural outskirts of Medan. There I was greeted by locals who welcomed me into their home and with whom I enjoyed my next few days with. I stayed for three nights and got to know the city, the landscape and the warm welcoming way of Indonesia. Often times I did leave the camera at home though and just took some pictures with my phone.
First thing I was always greeted by was this lovely sunrise every morning:

While exploring the City itself we did visit the old Istana Maimun
- a royal palace of the Sultanate of Deli, which was
designed by an Dutch architect.
Today it acts as a famous museum. Even though it is nice to look at from the outside, it did turn out that the public
area inside is very small and that it is mostly used a souvenir store today.
The throne room was still available to the public:

Besides this architectural interesting palace we also had a look at the Graha Bunda Maria Annai Velangkanni
- a
Marian shrine which is devoted to “Our Lady of Good Health”.

After the busy city and the adventures traffic we were definitely glad to experience more of the Indonesian landscape again, by visiting a fishing area.
And of course, most of the time we used the motorcycle to get around. Especially in the evening it is a really nice way to get around as the wind from driving on it is quite refreshing.
